Rationale of the Qualification

Rwanda’s Tourism industry has rapidly grown in the past couple of years. TVET in Rwanda has the aim to create competent, motivated, adaptable, innovative, and self-reliant workforce to contribute to the economic and social development of the country, thus improving the livelihoods of all Rwandans and reducing poverty sustainably. It also seeks to strengthen the culture of self-employment and supporting job creation in the economy. Competency-based training provides a curriculum framework which links ractice to theory in more coherent ways that avoids dichotomy between “knowing that” and “knowing how” and is closely aligned with performance expected in the occupation Ministerial Order N° 002/MINEDUC/2021 gazetted on 20/10/2021 established curriculum in general, professional and technical and vocational basic education where the former Hospitality sector had 5 programs namely, Food and Beverage services, Front Office operations, housekeeping operations, culinary arts and tourism. With new structure of TVET systems, Food & beverage services and culinary arts have been combined to make one program of food & beverage operations, Front office and Housekeeping also have been combined to make one program of Front office & Housekeeping operations.

-Preferred pathways for candidates entering this qualification include: To have completed 9 Years Basic Education with Outstanding performance in National examination of Ordinary Level in the following subjects: Geography, History and Biology which are considered as key prerequisites. A range of other related ualifications equivalent to 9 Years Basic Education with Outstanding performance in the following subjects Geography, History and Biology which are considered as key prerequisites.
